knitting for winter

I have decided, yes, to become virtuous and womanly and knit together garments to keep me (and the ones I love) warm in the winter time. Given the amount of train trips I make (between the blue mountains and the sutherland shire) this should be easy, I hope.  Why, only last week I managed a pair of these,

even though all I  have ever knitted before are scarves (of the dodgy, hole ridden, loopy variety). Admittedly, these slippers were very easy to make (try the steps here and, if you’re feeling charitable, you can donate your work to people in nursing homes) and they had the extra appeal of looking like a beard when held up to one’s face. Still, chic sweaters and cosy blankets are only a few steps away, right?
